- We are proud to exhibit this beautiful collection of original artworks by St. Martin's noted artist, author and historian, Roland Richardson. - *Our Special Congratulations!* In April 2007, Mr. Richardson was awarded the honor of Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau, the highest award of the Dutch Royal Decorations from the court of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. In June 2007, Mr. Richardson was offered a Lifetime Achievement Award by the French Government. For over forty years, Roland Richardson has worked diligently to introduce the light of the Caribbean to the rest of the world with his brush and palette, and masterful technique in many mediums, in the creation of his sensitive artwork. He is prized as one of the Caribbean's foremost painters, as he records this beautiful culture by painting "en plein air", in the field, always from a living subject. Flamboyant Branch over Baie Longue Richardson's St. Martin heritage dates back to the 1700's. While his roots are in the Caribbean, universities around the world are teaching about Roland Richardson's contributions to the realm of Contemporary Plein Air Impressionism, and journalists over the last forty years have penned Roland Richardson as "The Father of Caribbean Impressionism." Flamboyant, Bush Road The Flamboyant tree, synonymous with his signature, has become an important symbol of the Caribbean due to Richardson's passion for these brilliant red summer blooms.
