| France and The Netherlands are now members of
the European Union whose currency is the Euro. But, although,
the Euro is now the official currency of St. Maarten/St. Martin,
Guilders are still used on the Dutch side and US Dollars are
accepted throughout the island. And, in most restaurants, hotels,
retail shops, etc. prices are quoted in US dollars. Major credit
cards and US Dollar traveler's checks are accepted almost everywhere
with photo identification. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are located at the Bank of Nova Scotia, RBTT, and Windward Islands Bank branches, as well as BDAF Bank in Marigot. Also, at Princess Juliana Airport, the Sonesta Maho Resort and Pelican Resort Shopping Plazas. Banks are open 8:30 AM - 3 PM, Monday through Friday, but the bank at the Princess Juliana International Airport is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. If you patronize the casinos, put a few dollars away. The Airport Departure Tax for those leaving on an international flight is $30 U.S. per person. Payment is required before you board the plane and only cash or traveler's checks are acceptable. American Airlines and a few other airlines include the departure tax in the cost of your airfare. Thanks, American!! |
