Cyber Cafés, Electricity & Water

Cyber Cafés

Need to check your email? Want to keep in touch with the office? Or, maybe you just want to bug your family and friends with the great vacation you are having on St. Maarten. Well then, you need a cyber café to check and send emails. There are two excellent cyber cafés with fairly new computers within close proximity to the airport, actually about a mile or so away. One is The Mailbox, which is located on Airport Road near the Palapa Center, telephone number is 545.3890 and email is themailbox@caribserve.net. The other is the Yacht Club Business Centre, which is located at the Simpson Bay Marina Yacht Club, telephone number is 544.3315 and email is ycbc@satcoms.net. Both are open 7 days a week, but the hours differ. Both charge approximately $5 for the first half-hour of computer use and $10 per hour. They also offer other related services.

By the way, many businesses on island and virtually all of Front Street, the Boardwalk and the Great Bay beach area are now (WiFi) Wireless as a service to tourism. So, if you have a laptop, you may be able to skip the cyber café and do your work or email from a restaurant or a bench on the beach.

Electricity, Water & Useful Tidbits

On the Dutch side, electricity is 110 Volts AC, the same as in the USA. On the French side, electricity is 220 Volts AC, the same as in France or Europe. For Americans staying on the Dutch side, your hairdryer and electric toothbrush will work fine. But, if you are staying on the French side, you will need an adapter for the 220 current. If you don't have one, your hotel can usually provide one or you can purchase one at the local food or hardware store. Although many people on the island drink bottled water, the water on the island is desalinated and purified for drinking from the faucet.
